CEEE's Fabio Battaglia receives Ph.D.
Fabio Battaglia completed his Ph.D. this summer after spending three years with CEEE researching in the AHXPI consortium group. His thesis is titled, “Design and Experimental Characterization of Metal Additive Manufactured Heat Exchangers for Aerospace Application”.
Before attending University of Maryland, Battaglia received his master’s degree in energy engineering from the Polytechnic University of Milan and his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, both in his home country of Italy.
After graduation Battaglia plans to stay in the United States, as he has accepted a job offer as a thermal engineer with Daikin, one of CEEE’s sponsor companies.
“Thanks to the great collaboration between CEEE and the sponsors, I was able to get the opportunity to go for an internship with Daikin last summer where I worked with wonderful people and the job requirements perfectly lined up with my skills,” Battaglia said. “I was very lucky to obtain a job offer at the end of this experience and I am looking forward to beginning this new adventure that will also allow me to easily stay in touch with CEEE.”
Battaglia is excited to continue his rewarding career in research and plans to stay working in research and development in the future, adding that he finds research to be a very challenging and motivating environment.
“One of the main reasons to pursue a PhD is the passion for research and developing new technologies,” he said. “ I would like to always be working on the front lines of pushing the limits of the capabilities of technology.”
When asked what he will miss most about CEEE, Battaglia didn’t hesitate to say his team. He said he is grateful for all of the students, faculty and staff that helped provide a constructive and peaceful environment that helped him complete his research.
“I would like to thank Dr. Michael Ohadi and Dr. Amir Shooshtari, Dr. Martinus Arie, Dr. Farah Singer and Dr. Raphael Mandel for their guidance, help, encouragement, and support during the entire time of my Ph.D.,” Battaglia said. “I am also grateful to the other students in the lab and I will miss working with all of them and sharing the satisfaction of a successful outcome after a very long day of work!”
