Welcome to CEEE, Roxana Family!
Roxana Family, Ph.D. joins CEEE as a faculty research associate in the AHXPI consortium group, where she will be working on two research projects: “Energy Audit of Buildings” and “Thermal Management of Data Centers”.
Before joining CEEE, Family received her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Özyeğin University in Istanbul, Turkey. During her time there she was a teacher’s assistant for mathematics, physics, and thermodynamics courses at the university and worked for the Center for Energy, Environment, and Economy (CEEE) at the university as a research assistant. She completed her Ph.D. with seven papers and a dissertation entitled “Radiative Cooling by Spectrally Selective Materials for Buildings”.
Prior to pursuing a Ph.D., she received two bachelor’s degrees, one Bachelor of Science in Materials Engineering and the other a Bachelor of Arts in English Language Translation. After receiving her first bachelor’s degree, she continued her education and received a Master’s of Science degree in Materials Engineering-Ceramics. Her master’s thesis was titled: “Hydroxyapatite Nanocomposite Coating on Titanium Dental Implants”. After her master’s was completed she worked for two years as a researcher at Shahed University Research Center in Tehran, Iran. During this time, she finished the Bachelor of Arts degree in English Language Translation.
“It was my dream to have an experience of living abroad for a short time to be familiar with other people’s science, culture, and way of living directly,” said Family. “Now, I’m working at one of the world’s best universities and groups and have the chance to work under the supervision of Professor Ohadi and Dr. Shooshtari, which is a very valuable experience for my future academic life.”
Outside of research, Family loves hiking, swimming and playing ping pong, among other sports. She also enjoys reading novels, especially Persian poems.
