Farewell, Dr. Tao Cao

CEEE’s post-doctoral researcher Dr. Tao Cao has moved on to specialize in data science and machine learning working for Walmart. He is currently working from Maryland remotely but will relocate to San Francisco later this year. Cao received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering in December 2016 from The University of Maryland and continued his research for CEEE in the EEHP consortium group after graduation until January 2022.

“Tao was a key member of the CEEE faculty for many years, developed from a thermal engineering researcher to a data scientist,” said CEEE Co-Director Dr. Yunho Hwang. “He will be missed but we wish him the best in his future career endeavors!”

Cao came to the United States in 2012 after studying mechanical engineering at Xi’a Jiao Tong University in Xi’an, Shaanxi, China. His interest in energy engineering made CEEE a perfect fit for him. This allowed him to explore the basics of energy transfer and equipment, problem solving for general engineering issues, and conducting research from the developmental approach.

“I will miss the countless brainstorming sessions and talks on innovative ideas with other faculty and students,” said Cao.
