I got the opportunity to do research as an energy analyst and working with an amazing group of people whose primary goal is to ensure you learn as much as possible.

Oluwaferanmi ‘Feranmi’ Akinpelu is a master’s student and a graduate research assistant in the Advanced Heat Exchangers and Process Intensification (AHXPI) research consortium group.

Before attending University of Maryland, Feranmi received his undergraduate degree at The Pennsylvania State University, where he majored in Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering

“My focus since undergrad has been in energy resources and connecting industrial industries to/with environmental protection,” he said. “It something I have always been passionate about. I felt it was right to come back to the state I grew up in for my graduate studies and develop my interest and passion into a program that share my interest.”

Feranmi chose to come to UMD and CEEE because he felt it was the best fit for him. “I got the opportunity to do research as an energy analyst and working with an amazing group of people whose primary goal is to ensure you learn as much as possible,” he said.

Feranmi is expected to graduate in Spring of 2022 and hopes to continue applying his passion of environmental protection in his career.

“I’m always open to new opportunities, growth and expansion, so I’m excited for the next stage of my life and what it holds,” he said. “Hopefully, I’d be able to tie my passion to whatever career I find myself in.”

When he isn’t in class or in the research lab you can find Feranmi working out or playing soccer. Feranmi played club soccer for Penn State as an undergrad. Passionate about learning, he likes to keep up to date on a variety of topics – news, stock market and general affairs of the world.
