I've always had a strong will to deliver a deep and thorough comprehension of engineering concepts.

Man Chul Jeong joins CEEE as a graduate research assistant while pursuing a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering at University of Maryland. He is expected to complete the program by the end of 2025. Prior to attending Maryland, he received a bachelor's degree from the department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Tohoku University in Japan. He then completed a master's degree from the department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Seoul National University, South Korea.

Initially, his master's program research and his work experience in the aerospace field was focused on Unmanned Aero Vehicle development but he felt his work was less applicable to most people which inspired him to rethink his research focus and switch to something where he could contribute more to what he valued.

“I've always had a strong will to deliver a deep and thorough comprehension of engineering concepts,” said Jeong. “I chose CEEE since faculty members of this center are world-leading researchers and because the research is mainly on environmental energy saving, which aligns with my goals.”

He added that CEEE has everything he needs to conduct various research and he values that he can find most resources, tools, and instruments to utilize. “I am confident that the close network of CEEE with industrial companies is a unique and priceless opportunity while being a graduate student.”

Looking ahead, Jeong hopes to continue his research in the thermal or fluid engineering field. His top priority is staying in the U.S., but he said he is also open to other regions such as South Korea, Japan, or Europe.

When he isn’t studying or researching, Jeong enjoys playing and watching various sports such as Soccer, F1, baseball, basketball and tennis.

“Especially nowadays, I am focusing on sharing time with my wife watching Netflix, playing tennis, or taking a walk on weekends.”
