The Megawatt Rack Data Center: Opportunities, Challenges, and Research and Technology Gaps

Hosted by the Center for Environmental Energy Engineering

The Center for Environmental Energy Engineering (CEEE) is pleased to announce a full-day technical workshop focused on the emerging paradigm of megawatt rack data centers and their implications for energy systems, thermal management and infrastructure design.

This workshop will bring together researchers, industry professionals and practitioners to explore the opportunities, challenges and critical research gaps associated with high-power-density data centers. The program will cover a broad range of topics, including fundamental concepts, real-world applications, state-of-the-art research developments and future research needs.

The workshop will feature keynote presentations, panel discussions and interactive breakout sessions, providing ample opportunities for technical exchange, discussion and collaboration.

This in-person workshop is designed for engineers, researchers, data center professionals and policymakers interested in the next generation of high-performance, sustainable data center technologies. This workshop builds on CEEE's fall 2025 Data Center Cooling Workshop, but it is structured to function independently for new participants.

Registration:

CEEE Members: Free admission; workshop will precede the Spring 2026 Consortium Meetings.  Please register for the workshop when you register for the consortium meetings.
Nonmembers: $500 per person. Registration link to come.
