The diversity of our research team was one of the reasons I loved working at CEEE so much.

Layla Monajemi graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from The University of Maryland in 2002. After completing her undergraduate degree, she stayed at Maryland and began working toward a master’s degree and joined CEEE’s EEHP research group, advised by CEEE Co-director Dr. Yunho Hwang. She completed her master's degree in 2004 and her thesis was titled: “Reliability assessment of rolling piston rotary compressors.”

“The diversity of our research team was one of the reasons I loved working at CEEE so much,” Monajemi said. “The diversity of backgrounds always brings diversity of thoughts which is a valuable asset for all team members.”

Monajemi now works as a global energy manager at Juniper Networks in Sunnyvale, California, where she leads the real estate strategy of Juniper’s data center portfolio. Additionally, she manages the company’s energy supply and demand within operating facilities globally.

In her free time, Monahemi said that she loves nature and her favorite activities are hiking and camping.

“California has phenomenal natural beauty and I am immensely grateful for living in an area with so much natural beauty,” she said.
