Master's degree student Xiang Zhang was selected to receive an American Societyof Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineer's (ASHRAE) Graduate Grant-in-Aid Award worth $10,000 to fund his research in HVAC and heat exchanger. He will receive an additional $1,500 for his personal use after he publishes a paper based on his research in an ASHRAE journal.  The program provides research funds to full-time graduate students in support of the development of innovative ASHRAE-related technologies. This annual grant is awarded by ASHRAE's research administration committee, which ranks students based upon academics, research plan, faculty recommendation, and the student's potential for future ASHRAE involvement.   Winning this grant allows Xiang to continue pursuing his research on development of additive manufacturing-enabled heat exchangers for high temperature applications. He is currently focused on the design of an air-to-air cross flow heat exchanger, which takes the advantage of enhanced heat transfer surfaces and additive manufacturing techniques.
