AHXPI Consortium Group Adds New Graduate Research Assistants

Yash Jatin Oza

Yash Jatin Oza is a new CEEE graduate research assistant in the AHXPI Consortium Group pursuing a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. He is from Rajkot, Gujarat, India. Prior to coming to The University of Maryland, he received his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Nirma University, Ahmedabad.

Prior to joining CEEE, Yash worked full time as a System Integrator in the Research and Development (R&D) division of Blue Star Limited, India with a focus on development of Inverter-type split air conditioners for the domestic market.

“Joining CEEE will be a strong platform to boost my existing skill set and learn new ones,” Yash said. “My research goals lie in the development of sustainable and reliable energy systems and my major focus would be on advanced energy auditing and modelling of state-owned buildings.”

After CEEE he would ideally like to extend his engineering application area to Green Energy and Reliability analysis of such systems, with an overlap in Aerospace, Automobile and Transport industries.

When Yash isn’t in the lab or studying he likes to do photography, sketches, drawing and slow music. He also is a big aviation enthusiast.

Aditya Ramnarayan

Aditya Ramnarayan is a new CEEE graduate research assistant in the AHXPI Consortium Group pursuing a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. He is from Mumbai, India. Prior to coming to The University of Maryland, he received his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from Manipal Institute of Technology and his undergraduate thesis was titled “Energy Harvesting from Fluid-Structure Interactions (FSI).”

“As a student of Mechanical Engineering with a specialization in Sustainable Energy, I
believe that working on energy efficiency and energy savings is a need
of the future which is what drew me to CEEE and why I wanted to work on energy auditing with Prof. Ohadi and his team.”

After CEEE, Aditya’s research and professional interests include working toward building a future completely reliable on sustainable energy.

“I intend on working in the field of Sustainable Energy because I believe that switching to renewables will help reduce carbon emissions and thus reduce global warming which is currently a crisis the entire
world is facing,” Aditya said.

When Aditya isn’t in the lab or studying he likes to read, listen to music, watch T.V., exercise, and play football.

Winston Wang

Winston Wang is a new CEEE graduate research assistant in the AHXPI Consortium Group pursuing a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. He was born in China and moved to Columbia Maryland when he was 12. Winston received his undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering from The University of Maryland, as well.

Winston chose to join CEEE because he is “interested in the energy side of the mechanical engineering field and I want to learn about this industry more to be prepared for a future career in it.”

After he receives his master's degree, Winston would like to become a consultant at an engineering firm where he can apply his knowledge gained from CEEE and make advancements to the industry.

When he isn’t in the lab or studying, he enjoys reading novels, traveling, playing video games, eating different types of food and playing sports.

Rohit Choudhary

Rohit Choudhary is a new CEEE graduate research assistant in the AHXPI Consortium Group pursuing a master’s degree in mechanical engineering. He is from Madhya Pradesh, India. Rohit received his undergraduate degree in Computer Science & Information technology from the Symbiosis University of Applied Sciences, Indore.

“I value that CEEE supports the inclusion of students from various backgrounds and I was especially elated to work under the supervision of Dr. Shooshtari & Dr. Ohadi,” he said. “I am passionate about technology and I can contribute and use my technical skills to help them with their data needs.”

After he receives his degree, Winston would like to become a consultant at an engineering firm where he can apply his knowledge gained from CEEE and make advancements to the industry.

In his free time, Rohit is a professional badminton player and he also enjoys playing volleyball and table tennis.

Soma Roy

Soma Roy is a new CEEE graduate research assistant in the AHXPI Consortium Group pursuing a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering. She is from Bangladesh. Soma received her Bachelor's of Science degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology and her undergraduate research focused on heat transfer enhancement using microchannel and nanofluid as a coolant.

"I find Thermal Engineering fascinating as it works on technical challenges that directly concern the advancement of human civilization," she said. "I intend to conduct fundamental and applied research in thermal sciences to address current engineering challenges."

When she isn't studying or conducting research, Soma is a marathon swimmer and theater performer. She also loves traveling, hiking and painting.
