Center for Environmental Engingeering (CEEE) Ph.D. student Zhiwei Huang was awarded an fellowship in the Future Faculty Program.  The Future Faculty Program aims to increase the number of highly qualified teachers which the A.J. Clark School of Engineering produces for the world's engineering schools.  The program also prepares selected Clark School doctoral students to achieve career-long success in the academic world as teachers and researchers, and places selected students in leading institutions.  This allows their impact to be greatest, and they can continue to partner with the Clark School.

After a competitive selection process 20 students, including at least one representative from each of the Clark School's departments, are chosen to be Future Faculty Fellows. Selected students are provided with a $3,000 travel stipend to attend professional conferences, in addition to any teaching or research assistantships they may already have.

Ms. Huang's research topic is the development of next generation heat exchangers for residential heat pump units, with the objective of lowering the pressure drop, volume, and materials required by 20 percent from the current standard for micro-channel heat exchangers.  She is an active member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) student chapter, of which she is currently president.
